Discussion Question 5: Answer all 4 question.
1. James Thurber Part One
Select ONE of the following (unicorn/roses/psychiatrist) and explore what it SYMBOLIZES in Thurber’s story. Be sure to identify your selection and explain your answer with support/evidence from the story. Please limit yourself to only one of these three choices.
2. James Thurber Part Two
(This question should be answered near the end of the week after many of your classmates have had a chance to respond to PART ONE.)
Read the answers to PART ONE and vote for the BEST symbol you find for EACH of the options: unicorn/roses/psychiatrist. If you read all the answers and still like yours best, that’s fine, but you must say WHY it’s better than the others. Identify by name the student whose answer you selected, their answer, and your reason for selecting it. Post all three votes in one thread here.
Do this part for part two for me: Tell why my part one is the best and WHY it’s better than the others.
3. Toni Morrison
Is this a pessimistic story or an optimistic one? Provide support for your answer.
4. John Steinbeck
Identify ONE passage or quote from Steinbeck’s piece that caught your attention because it was powerful, intriguing, confusing, or insightful and say WHY you found it noteworthy. Then respond to another student’s selected quote (under their thread). What is your response to the quote they selected?
