Homework:
(1) Read Deborah Knott’s piece on critical reading and writing. Note ways in which the principles of critical thinking are involved in her discussion (though she never mentions the phrase).
(2) Write an essay in which you discuss the nature of explicit and implicit bias. Be sure to define your terms and provide enough context and explanation for your readers to understand what you’re talking about. Use some of the texts we have read (Radford’s “How Astrology is Like Racism,” Dean’s “How a Psychological Bias…”, Ellis’s “Why I Quit the Klan,” Three Rivers’ “Cultural Etiquette,” Shadoan’s “I Am Racist, and So Are You,” and McIntosh’s “White Privilege”) to provide both quoted and paraphrased material for your discussion
