The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock was written in between 1910-1911 when T. S. Eliot was 23 years old. Since Eliot just went to Europe from United States and his thought was in a process of rapid changing, The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock became a masterpiece that represent his writing style completely changed to modernist. Even though Eliot was young when he wrote this poem, but the work itself is already mature. The narrator of the poetry is Prufrock, a young man, who did not disclose with a specific age. The poem was written in a description of first person of Prufrock when he across the street, and go to a party for propose in dusk. The character, Prufrock, belongs to one of the very common type of young in contemporary society. This type of young are very sensitive, have their own ideals and pursuit, also the increasingly, indifferent dissatisfied of the industrialization, but they don’t have the strength to break free. With the anger and pain, they can only choose cowardly endure the reality. Although Eliot used J. Alfred Prufrock to name his love song, but actually, it was a sad song. It was a portrayal of his struggling and hesitation for the society.
