General guidelines for answering the question: the question should be answered in an essay format. Use relevant concepts, and arguments in your explanation(s).
When Andrew started working at the local print shop, he got along with everyone. As a supervisor he tried to stay friends with the people who worked for him. Soon after, a new supervisor, Gina, was hired to manage the shipping department. One day Andrew heard Gina use a racial slur. Then Andrew started noticing that Gina would eat only with people of her own race and gender. He heard her make another racist remark. He ignored her, but he shared his concerns with coworkers questioning whether a racist should be managing other people. Andrew discussed Gina’s behavior with his supervisor but she did not see enough evidence of racism to do anything about it.
Drawing on your reading from chapter 2, answer the following questions in an essay format: a) Identify and discuss thoroughly the three principles of symbolic interaction. Which symbolic interaction principle explains Andrew’s behavior toward Gina? Elaborate, b) Apply the principle(s) to explain why Andrew and his supervisor reached different conclusions about Gina, c) what type of group is depicted in the vignette? Elaborate?
