Students will view the film Crimson Tide with actors Gene Hackman and Denzel Washington.
Students will submit a four to five page analysis (about 1200-1500 words) of the leadership strategies depicted in the movie demonstrating his or her ability to use the language of the textbook and Professor XXX’s provided lecture material to capably discuss the elements of the different leadership styles of the films two main characters. The student is expected, using several kinds of leadership models form the course, Explain why the tribunal at the end of the film had such a difficult time arriving at a decision about “right” and “wrong.” There are many Crimson Tide Leadership Assignment papers on the Internet. Don’t bother. This paper will be graded based on your ability to draw on the materials discussed by citing the textbook and citing Professor XXX’s provided lecture materials. If there is not equal citation from both resources, it will be assumed that the paper did not follow the directions and the grade will reflect this.
A passing grade for the paper is based on your ability to use existing leadership theory/practice literature FROM THIS COURSE to discuss the strengths and problems of the leadership styles you observed in the film. It is not based on your ability to retell the plot. Explain plot points from the film ONLY as it serves to advance an argument claim you are making about a positive or negative leadership practice. The IMDB.com website provides a complete list of character names AND has an extensive collection of quotes from the film that you may use to illustrate points. Please parenthetically cite IMDB when you use this resources.
There is an expectation that students will provide specific evidence of their argument claims from scenes in the film. The following will be the grading rubric: Paper submitted on time, neatly keyboarded with appropriate font (Times Roman/12 point), margins (1 inch), and pagination at top right. It will identify the author of the paper at top left
