Northouse: EQ Fieldwork Activity (40 points) Reflection Journal Due December 8
Emotional intelligence refers to the capacity for recognizing our own feelings and those of others, for motivating ourselves, and for managing emotions well in ourselves and in our relationships. -Daniel Goleman
Emotional intelligence is a critical component of your success as a leader. Considerable research indicates emotional intelligence skills are the single biggest predictor of performance in the workplace and the strongest driver of leadership and personal excellence (Bradberry & Greaves, 2005, p. 52). This fieldwork activity develops your understanding of these important emotional intelligence competencies. Your participation in a variety of self-directed learning experiences provides practice in applying Emotional Intelligence skills in your leadership practice and in your life. A lecture on EQ along with strategies for improvement will be presented during class to prepare you for your field work and journal reflections. Emotional Intelligence (EQ) is briefly touched on under Trait Theory in Chapter 2 of Northouse.
